To provide LED lamps with the correct voltage, a transformer/driver is used to convert the mains voltage from 110-240V to 12-24V. There are different dimming methods for the dimming LED light sources.
Triac dimmable (trailing edge)
Perhaps the best known form of LED dimming, where the lamp can easily be operated with a universal LED low voltage wall dimmer. The dimmer can be recognized by the indication of R,C or R,L,C on the dimmer. With a dimming range of 100%, the lamp can be dimmed until it is completely off. Triac dimming does not require any additional control wires, so it can be implemented in existing installations.
1-10V
The LED driver is controlled by an external signal between 1 and 10V. Perfectly dimmable in a range from 10% to 100%. Applicable with many home automation systems. It is necessary to place a 1-10V actuator between the home automation system and the fixture. Two extra control wires are needed to connect 1-10V.
